EKINSUN manufactures high-pressure braided contrast extension tubes for CT angiography, MRI contrast studies, and cardiac catheterization power injection setups. The nylon braid reinforcement layer sustains 1200 psi working pressure while the flexible PVC outer jacket maintains kink resistance in the confined space around imaging tables. Available in T-type (dual patient output) and Y-type (dual syringe input) configurations.

Clinical Context — Why Extension Tube Rating Matters

During power injection of iodinated contrast media for CT angiography, the injector delivers contrast at flow rates of 4 to 6 ml/s through the syringe and extension tube to the patient's IV cannula. Peak pressure occurs at the moment of highest flow resistance — typically when contrast viscosity is highest (cold, high-concentration agents) or when the IV cannula is small (20G or 22G). Pressure peaks can exceed 300 psi in clinical use even at moderate flow rates.

The extension tube must be rated substantially above this clinical peak pressure to provide a safe margin against tube failure during injection. Our 1200 psi rating provides a safety factor of more than 4x typical clinical peak pressure — ensuring no risk of tube rupture or separation at the Luer-lock joints during standard CT angiography protocols. This rating is also critical for cardiac catheterization protocols where higher flow rates (up to 10 ml/s) and higher pressures are used.

Construction and Quality Details

Nylon Braid Reinforcement Layer

The nylon braid is the structural element that provides pressure containment. Braid density (picks per inch) and fiber tensile strength determine the pressure rating. Our braid construction is validated to maintain 1200 psi working pressure across the full tube length including bend radii as tight as 5cm — covering the worst-case coiling around an imaging table. The braid pattern is inspected at defined intervals during production using optical measurement systems.

Luer-Lock End Fittings

ISO 594-compliant polycarbonate Luer-lock fittings are bonded to the tube ends using a validated adhesive process with defined cure time, temperature, and pressure parameters. Each fitting-to-tube joint is pull-tested after bonding before assembly of the complete tube. See our Luer connector fittings page for standalone connector products.

Pairing with Complete Injector Kit

For a complete contrast injection setup, pair these extension tubes with our 150ml high pressure injector sets, disposable angiography catheters, and contrast injection stopcocks — all CE marked, from a single ISO 13485-certified supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions

T-type extension tubes split one injector output into two patient lines, allowing simultaneous bilateral contrast injection into two patients or two IV sites — used in dual-head injector setups or bilateral angiography protocols. Y-type tubes combine two inputs (typically contrast and saline from a dual-syringe injector) into one patient line, enabling sequential contrast-then-saline flush injection without disconnecting the patient line. The choice depends entirely on your injector platform configuration and clinical protocol.

Rated working pressure is 1200 psi (82.7 bar). Burst pressure exceeds 2400 psi (tested at 2x rated). Each tube is pressure-tested at 1.5x rated working pressure (1800 psi) as part of 100% production quality control before EO sterilization. The high-tensile nylon braid reinforcement layer provides this pressure rating while maintaining flexibility and kink resistance in the radiology suite environment.

Yes. ISO 594 Luer-lock connectors on both ends are compatible with Medrad Stellant, Nemoto A-60, Ulrich Missouri, Bayer Stellant, and Guerbet OptiVantage injector systems. If your injector uses a proprietary connector rather than standard Luer-lock, contact us with the model — custom adapter versions are available at 500 pcs MOQ.

Standard lengths: 75cm, 100cm, and 150cm. 75cm is suitable for compact radiology rooms where the injector is positioned close to the patient table. 100cm is the most common choice for standard CT and MRI room configurations. 150cm is used when the injector must be positioned further from the patient — for example in MRI suites where the injector must remain outside the 5-Gauss line. Custom lengths from 50cm to 200cm are available at 500 pcs MOQ.

Yes. Extension tubes are available separately in bulk in addition to being included in our complete injector kit. Many radiology departments that already have injector syringes from another supplier source extension tubes separately for cost or compatibility reasons. Minimum order for extension tubes sold separately is 500 pcs.

Maximum rated flow rate is 10 ml/s at 1200 psi working pressure. This covers all standard CT angiography protocols (typically 4 to 6 ml/s) and cardiac catheterization protocols (up to 10 ml/s). For specialized ultra-high-flow applications exceeding 10 ml/s, contact us for reinforced tubing options with larger inner diameter.

Priming volume for the 100cm straight extension tube is approximately 3ml. This represents the volume of saline or contrast required to fill the tube before reaching the patient line. In contrast injection protocols, the priming volume must be accounted for in the programmed injection volume to ensure the intended contrast volume reaches the patient. The tube is supplied unfilled and must be primed by the radiographer before connecting to the patient.

Yes. Our complete high-pressure injector kit (see the HP Injector Set product page) includes the 150ml syringe, J-type aspirator tube, and a 100cm high-pressure extension line — all pre-assembled in a single sterile peel-pack. For customers who prefer component-by-component sourcing, extension tubes are also available separately.

CE declaration of conformity, ISO 13485 manufacturing certificate, pressure test certificate, EO sterilization certificate, and batch certificate of analysis. Full technical file available under NDA for EU regulatory review or 510k support.

Standard inner diameters are 2.0mm and 2.6mm. The 2.6mm inner diameter reduces flow resistance and is preferred for high-viscosity contrast agents such as Visipaque (iodixanol 320) which requires higher injection pressure at equivalent flow rates compared to lower-viscosity agents. Custom inner diameters available at 500 pcs MOQ with 30 to 45 day lead time.
