EKINSUN's ISO 13485 injection molding facility uses validated molds with in-process dimensional monitoring and 100% post-molding CO2 seal testing on assembled units. Key manufacturing controls include:

  • Mold cavity dimensional control: inner cannula diameter tolerance held to plus or minus 0.05mm to ensure proper instrument fit and CO2 seal
  • Valve assembly validation: each valve mechanism assembled and tested for CO2 seal at 20mmHg before trocar packaging
  • Obturator tip geometry: bladeless dilating tip angle and surface finish controlled for consistent tissue spreading force
  • Reducer cap fit test: every reducer cap insertion-tested in trocar before packing to confirm correct fit and CO2 seal maintenance

Bladeless trocars use a conical or pyramidal dilating tip that spreads tissue apart rather than cutting — reducing the risk of port-site bleeding, inadvertent visceral injury, and post-operative port-site hernia. Bladed trocars use a sharp cutting obturator that requires less insertion force, which is advantageous for obese patients with thick abdominal walls. Bladeless is the current preferred design for most laparoscopic procedures due to its superior safety profile. We supply both; bladeless is recommended for most indications.

All our trocars maintain gas-tight seal integrity at 20mmHg CO2 pressure — which is the standard upper limit of laparoscopic insufflation pressure (typical working pressure is 12 to 15mmHg). The multi-seal valve system is tested per ISO 8538 valve leak standard. Zero gas leakage at rated pressure across 100% of production units.

Each 12mm trocar includes two reducer caps: a 12mm-to-10mm reducer for use with 10mm laparoscopic instruments, and a 12mm-to-5mm reducer for 5mm instruments. This allows a single 12mm trocar to accept instruments of three different diameters without loss of CO2 seal — increasing port flexibility and reducing the number of different trocars needed in a laparoscopic setup. Reducer caps are individually sterile wrapped and packed with the trocar.

Our 8mm and 12mm versions are designed with dimensions compatible with standard robotic arm trocar adapters. Compatibility varies by robotic system generation — contact us with your specific robot model (da Vinci Si, X, Xi, or Intuitive Ion) for confirmation. Custom robotic-specific trocar dimensions are available at 500 pcs MOQ.

Standard working lengths are 70mm (standard), 100mm (extended), and 150mm (bariatric/obese). Extended and bariatric length trocars are required when the distance from skin to peritoneum exceeds the standard 70mm length — common in morbidly obese patients where a standard trocar may not reach the peritoneal cavity. Specify working length at inquiry.

Trumpet (flap) valve trocars use a spring-loaded flap mechanism that opens when an instrument is inserted and closes when it is withdrawn — providing positive CO2 seal even when instruments are not present. Duckbill valve trocars use a slit-valve mechanism that is simpler and lower profile but may allow minor gas leak when no instrument is present. Trumpet valve is standard for most laparoscopic applications; duckbill is preferred for NOTES and single-port procedures where a lower-profile trocar is needed.
