Custom Machined Washers,
Turned to Your Size

When the washer you need isn't a catalog size, it has to be made. We turn custom washers, shims and thrust washers from solid bar to your exact OD, bore and thickness — from a sketch or a sample. No CAD needed.

Looking for a machined washer no supplier stocks? If your washer needs a non-standard outside diameter, an odd bore, an exact thickness or a material stamping can't reach, it has to be turned to order. That's this service — custom washers machined from solid bar to your numbers, from a single piece.

Machined vs Stamped: Why It Has to Be Turned

Most washers you can buy are stamped — punched from thin sheet in a handful of standard sizes. That's fine until your job falls outside the catalog: a bore between two standard sizes, an outside diameter that has to clear a counterbore, a thickness that sets a precise gap, or a material sheet stock doesn't come in.

A machined (turned) washer is cut from solid bar on a lathe, so none of those limits apply. You get flat, parallel faces, a burr-free edge, controlled tolerances, and any OD/bore/thickness combination you specify. It's stronger than a stamped equivalent and available in grades and thicknesses stamping simply can't produce.

The 4 Numbers We Need

A washer is defined by a handful of dimensions. Mark these on your sketch (or just type them) and we can quote:

OD
Outside Ø
How wide the washer is
ID
Bore / Inside Ø
The bolt or shaft it fits over
t
Thickness
Flat, shim or set to a gap
+
Material / Finish
Stainless? Hardened? Tapped hole?

Metric or imperial, both fine. If you only have a worn original, send that instead of numbers — we measure everything from it and restore worn faces to the original design intent. Special features like an offset hole, a chamfer, a tab, a slot or a tapped hole are no problem; note them on the sketch.

Machined Washer Types We Make

Flat & special washers

Plain flat washers in non-standard OD, bore or thickness, plus large-diameter penny/repair washers stamping can't cover.

Shim & setting washers

Machined to a precise thickness to set bearing pre-load, end-float or a specific gap — single or as a graded set.

Thrust washers

Hardened steel, bronze or PTFE-faced thrust washers for rotating loads, turned to size and flatness.

Spherical & conical washers

Self-aligning spherical seats and Belleville-style conical washers to your angle and load.

Tab, slotted & keyed washers

Locking tab washers, C-washers and keyed/tab-in-bore washers milled after turning.

Insulating & sealing washers

Non-conductive plastic washers and bonded/soft-metal sealing washers for electrical or fluid joints.

Machining Capability Range

Typical range for turned washers — outside this envelope, ask and we'll confirm:

Thickness0.3 mm – 50 mmThin shims ground/lapped if needed
Thickness tolerance±0.02 mm typicalTighter on request for shim sets

Materials & When to Use Them

Brass & bronzeElectrical, decorative, low-friction thrust washersBronze for bearing/thrust duty
Carbon & alloy steelLoad-bearing and thrust washersCan be hardened, ground or zinc-plated
Aluminum 6061 / 7075Lightweight and cosmetic washersAnodize black, silver or color
TitaniumAerospace, motorsport, high strength-to-weightGrade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) available
Delrin / POM, PEEK, PTFE, nylonInsulating, low-friction, sealingNon-conductive; PEEK/PTFE for temperature & chemicals

Not sure which to pick? Describe what the washer does — the load, the mating faces, the environment — and we'll recommend a material with your quote. Material certification (EN 10204 3.1) is available on request.

Catalog jumps over your size? That's exactly what this service is for. Stock suppliers carry standard increments; we machine to your number — non-standard OD, odd bore, in-between thickness, special material — drawn by you, turned by us, from one piece.

How It Works

01

Send Your Sketch, Sample or Dimensions

Email a photo of your sketch or the worn washer — or just type OD, bore and thickness — to [email protected] or via the form. Note the material if you know it.

02

We Redraw & Confirm

Our engineer turns it into a CAD drawing within 24h and confirms any thickness/tolerance question — we never assume a shim tolerance you didn't ask for.

03

You Approve & We Quote

You approve the drawing; we send a firm price with material options and lead time. Tiered pricing for 1, a few, or a batch — all upfront.

04

We Turn, Inspect & Ship

Machined on our lathes, faced flat, dimensionally inspected, and shipped worldwide via DHL/FedEx with tracking.

Who Orders Custom Machined Washers

  • Machine & equipment rebuilders — thrust and shim washers to reset bearing pre-load and end-float where the original size is long gone.
  • Classic vehicle & motorcycle restorers — odd-bore and thick special washers no modern catalog lists; often as replacement parts from a sample.
  • Design engineers & OEMs — non-standard washers designed into an assembly, from prototype through production.
  • Maintenance & MRO buyers — one-off large-diameter or exotic-material washers to keep installed plant running.

Frequently Asked Questions

+

Stamped washers are punched from sheet in standard sizes, with a sheared edge and burr side. Machined washers are turned from solid bar to any OD, bore and thickness, with flat parallel faces, no burr and controlled tolerances — stronger and available in materials stamping can't reach.

+

Yes — that's the core of this service. Send the OD, bore and thickness you actually need (metric or imperial) and we turn it from solid bar. Non-standard bores, oversized ODs and in-between thicknesses are all normal orders.

+

Yes. Shim and setting washers are machined to a target thickness, typically ±0.02 mm or tighter, with flat parallel faces. Tell us the stack-up you're correcting and we machine to it — or supply a graded set.

+

Yes, MOQ is 1 piece with no tooling charge. Order one to confirm the fit, then reorder a batch at a lower unit price — we keep your CAD on file.

+

Stainless (303/304/316), brass and bronze, carbon and alloy steel, aluminum, titanium, and plastics like Delrin/POM, PEEK, PTFE and nylon — including hardened thrust washers and PTFE/bronze low-friction washers.

+

Yes. Send one sample, or a sketch with OD, bore and thickness marked. We redraw it in CAD for free, confirm every dimension, and machine to it. No CAD file or part number needed.

+

Quote in 24 hours; typically 5–10 working days machining after drawing approval, plus tracked worldwide shipping. Small batches can often be expedited.
