You search every catalogue, post on the forums, and still come up empty — because the hinge exists on your door, just not on any shelf.

When Off-the-Shelf Won't Do

These are the situations a catalogue can't solve — and where a made-to-order hinge is the only real fix:

• Discontinued boat or RV hinge — the maker dropped the model or closed. See obsolete & discontinued parts.
• Offset or odd-length piano hinge — the classic "where do I even source this?" problem.
• Must match an existing hole pattern — re-drilling the door or frame isn't an option.
• Heavy-duty in 316 — you need marine grade and strength, not a light zinc casting.
• Worn pin or knuckle — the leaves are fine but the hinge sags or has play.

Catalogue continuous hinges come in a short grid of open width by thickness, in 1,000–1,020 mm or 6 ft lengths that you cut down. The grid is what a stockist can sell today; everything to the right of it — a longer piece in one length, a thicker leaf, a wider leaf, a stainless pin in a steel hinge, an offset or a hole pattern that must match — is made to order from 1 piece.

Grid from stockist ranges (steel series: 1-1/16" to 2" open width, 0.040" leaf, 0.091" pin, 1/2" knuckle; stainless series: 20 × 0.8 to 80 × 3 mm in 1,000–1,020 mm). Pin diameters outside the US series are typical for the width and are confirmed per part; materials are 304 (1.4301), 316 (1.4404), 6061 aluminium or steel. Lengths and thicknesses we machine are typical and confirmed per part; the capacity depends on the leaf and the pin, not on the length.

A recent request shows what the grid misses: a continuous hinge about 1,150 mm long in 304 stainless, about 3 mm thick, from photos of the old one. Nothing in a catalogue is that long in one piece at that thickness, so it is made — and the first thing the quote needs is not the length but the open (unfolded) width, the pin diameter, the hole diameter, the hole spacing and the edge distance, because those are what the new hinge must match. Measure them on the old hinge with a caliper, or send the hinge; we take the rest from it. Weld-on and lift-off versions follow the same table.
