Turned parts are what a lathe produces from bar stock: anything rotationally symmetric — shafts, bushings, spacers, threaded fittings, nipples, pins, adapters. In the American trade these are still called screw machine products, and buyers looking for a precision turned parts manufacturer or a CNC turned parts supplier are usually looking for exactly this: a shop that will cut a specific part from solid, to a specific print, in a quantity that suits them.

Most turned components in general use are stocked somewhere, and a stocked part is cheaper than a machined one every time. Turning from bar earns its cost in a specific window — and the honest way to describe that window is to say where it ends.

A large share of the turned work that reaches us comes from the same moment in a project: an engineer needs a handful of a part that does not exist yet, to put in a machine and find out whether it works.
The routes that serve production do not serve that moment. Casting or cold-forming the part means cutting tooling first — typically four to six weeks before the first sample, with permanent-mould sampling running longer, minimum quantities in the tens to hundreds, and a tooling cost that only makes sense spread over a committed annual volume in the thousands. None of that fits a part whose drawing may change next week.
Turning from bar skips the step entirely. There is no tooling to pay for, so there is no quantity you have to reach — one piece is a normal order, and the second revision costs no more to set up than the first. When the design settles and the volume justifies hard tooling, that is the right time to move the part; we will tell you when you have reached it. Ordering quantities and where that crossover sits are set out on low-volume production.
Send the quantity with the drawing. It changes the answer more than the material does. A print with "qty 5, prototype" and a print with "qty 5,000/year" lead to two different recommendations, and only one of them is us.

Yes. Non-standard sizes are our everyday work. We stock C93200 bearing bronze and can turn any ID/OD/length combination — flanged, plain, split or with oil grooves. No special tooling surcharge; just send the bore diameter, shaft diameter, length and whether you need a flange. We also make in PTFE, Delrin, nylon and stainless for food-grade or corrosive environments.
The more you send the faster and more accurate the quote — but at minimum: a drawing or sketch with key dimensions, material preference (or what the part does so we can suggest one), quantity and delivery country. Photos of the part, the assembly it goes into, or the worn original are all helpful. We send follow-up questions before quoting anything unclear — we'd rather ask once than machine the wrong part.
