Fastener Types Chart — Every Nut, Bolt, Screw, Washer, Pin, Insert and Rivet, With the Point Where the Catalogue Stops

One chart, eight families, about a hundred and forty named parts. Each row carries the name buyers use, the DIN or ISO number, the size range a stock catalogue actually holds, and the one thing that turns the part into a custom job. Use the range column to buy from stock; use the last two columns to know when to send us a drawing.

EKINSUN LTD is a custom parts manufacturer that makes the fasteners this chart cannot buy: the size past the end of the range, the odd pitch, the height that fits the pocket, the material the catalogue does not carry. Everything inside the ranges below is a stock item and should be bought as one. The chart exists so you can tell the two apart in a minute instead of an afternoon of catalogue pages, and so the specialist page for each family is one click away.

That is the gap the chart fills. The ranges are read from a 2026 stock catalogue covering stainless 201 / 304 / 316 / 410, carbon steel in classes 4.8 to 12.9, brass, nylon, PEEK, aluminium and titanium; where a family exists in several materials the row lists each range.

How to read the chart

Four columns matter. Standard is the number to put on a purchase order; where two are listed the ISO number is current and the DIN number is what most catalogues still print. Stock range is the span a distributor holds in that family: a size inside it is bought, not made. Made to drawing when names the single attribute that most often pushes a buyer out of the range. Page links to the family page with the full table, the negative-space list and the measuring routine.

  • Metric sizes are the nominal thread: M6 means a 6 mm major diameter, coarse pitch unless the row says fine.
  • Ranges with two numbers per material (M3–M24 stainless; M2–M16 steel) mean the family is stocked in both; the smaller span is the harder one to find.
  • Where the standard column says maker series, there is no DIN or ISO number and the part is defined by the maker's own catalogue; that is the family where custom work is most common.
  • Inch sizes (4-40, 6-32, 8-32, 10-32, 1/4-20) appear in a few rows; the full metric-to-inch logic is on the metric vs imperial thread chart.

Catalogue shorthand for heads and thread ends. Stock lists from Asian fastener lines label screws with two-letter codes instead of standard numbers: the first letter is the head, the second the thread end. Buyers see them on quotes and packing lists; this is what they mean.

Frequently asked questions

It is the span of sizes a distributor holds for that family in that material, read from a 2026 stock catalogue. A size inside the range is a catalogue item and should be bought as one; a size outside it, or a standard size with one changed dimension, is the part EKINSUN makes to drawing.

Compare three things with the row: the size against the range, the pitch against the standard pitch for that diameter, and the material against the materials listed. If all three match, buy stock. If any one does not, send the drawing or the sample; the family page lists exactly which numbers to send.

Either works on a purchase order, but the ISO number is the current one and the DIN number is what most catalogues still print. The chart lists both wherever both exist, so you can quote the number the other side expects.
